Founded in 1837, The Athlone Boat Club is one of the oldest rowing clubs in Ireland. The club is steeped in tradition and has played a leading role in the sporting history of our town. As a small club, the Boat Club is dependent on the support and generosity of people. With the commencement of building works on our new boathouse, there is great excitement that the Athlone Boat Club will finally have a state-of-the-art, flood-proof, and accessible facility that will house our boats and equipment safely, but more importantly, will be able to meet the needs of all our rowers, young and old.
 

To date, the club has been fortunate in being awarded funding from LEADER and from the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport’s Sports Capital Fund, the remainder of monies needed to complete the boathouse has to be raised by the club. With a shortfall of €119,000 and the impact of COVID 19 on our yearly fundraising events, there are limited ways and means of the club raising money.
